Taking Home the Medals at the Science Olympiad
Riverside students competed at the Science Olympiad this past weekend. What exactly is the Science Olympiad? Simply put, it is an organization that provides science-based competitions to students all across the country as well as provides workshops and resources for Elementary, Middle School, and High School students who are interested in science and technology. Competitions ranged from physiology to forensics and from geological mapping to herpetology.
Preparation for the competition began in November where students spent every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon practicing for various events. Their hard work paid off. Megan Cowin, Jacey Brugnone, Simon Myers, and Maddy Dunham earned well-deserved medals. The team took home two fourth-place medals for Forensics and Write It/ Do it, a third place medal for Geological Mapping, and a second place medal for CodeBusters. They also placed in Anatomy & Physiology, Fossils, and Herpetology. This success would not have been possible without the assistance of head coach Gary Steingas and assistant coaches Michael Cowin and Jason Haines.
