2019 State Knowledge Bowl Champions!
Riverside Christian posts 1B title win at 2019 State Knowledge Bowl Tournament!
Riverside Christian High School of Yakima came away with its first-ever state 1B championship trophy during the 37th annual Washington State Knowledge Bowl tournament that was hosted at Yakima’s West Valley High School on Saturday, March 23. Riverside Christian’s state title comes a year after the school had to settle for 2nd place after losing the 2018 state championship due to a tiebreaker round with West Sound Academy of Poulsbo. This year, West Sound Academy was again among the two other schools that Riverside Christian faced during the title round, but this time Riverside Christian easily dominated play throughout the final match to determine first place.
Said Riverside Christian faculty coach Mike Emmans: “We were glad to be a part of the competition and appreciative of the chance to compete during the regular season with local teams. We also appreciate the work that Elizabeth Chicken and ESD 105 puts into the season and the state meet.”
Members of Riverside Christian’s first-ever state Knowledge Bowl championship team (some of whom are pictured in the photo posted here) are: Malissa Campbell, Sarah Immel, Justin Klingele, Zach Bethel, Jessica Vye, and Joseph Allen.
Riverside Christian is only the second school from the south-central Washington region to ever win a state title in Knowledge Bowl. West Valley High School was the first to accomplish that, earning the state 2A championship in 2013.
